A major step forward for the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.
On April 29, the Mississaugas of the Credit Business Corporation (MCBC) announced a new limited partnership with Arcadis—marking a powerful shift toward Indigenous-led development across MCFN Treaty Lands.
The announcement took place at the CN Tower, overlooking a region that spans 3.9 million acres across the Greater Toronto and Greater Golden Horseshoe—home to nearly 10 million people. As the sole and rightful Treaty Holder, MCFN is asserting its role in shaping how this rapidly growing region develops.
Chief Margaret Sault reflected on the significance of the moment,
“If you are going to talk about big ideas and big partnerships, it’s nice to do it where you can see a long way out,” she said. “The agreement between MCBC and Arcadis is something very big for us—it’s not just a deal on paper, it’s a step along the right path forward.”
“MCBC will help guide this partnership on that path. MCBC’s purpose is not only to build economic strength for our Nation, but also to create independence.”
Majority-owned by MCBC, the partnership creates a new model grounded in Nationhood, responsibility, and long-term vision. Together, MCBC and Arcadis will work as one team on infrastructure, urban planning, architecture, and climate adaptation projects—embedding Indigenous knowledge, leadership, and values into every stage.
“Economic development is not separate from who we are, it’s part of how we take care of our people: how we invest in housing, education, culture, and our Community. It’s our responsibility to make sure our future generations have more opportunity than we did,” she said.
“We are here at the table, and we are helping lead the way, our voices, our values, our knowledge are a part of that process.”
Spanning more than 60 municipalities, the partnership positions MCBC to actively participate in development opportunities across Treaty Lands and beyond, supporting long-term economic self-determination while advancing climate resilience and community priorities.
“MCBC exists for a very specific purpose: to ensure the economic activity within our Treaty territory includes meaningful participation by the Treaty rights holders,” MCBC President & CEO Warren Sault said.
“We are very much looking forward to a great partnership with Arcadis and making sure the First Nation’s values are carried forward.”
This built on an agreement first established in 2025, this partnership reflects a growing future, one where Indigenous leadership is not only included, but central to shaping the lands we all share.
“There was a realization that we shared knowledge and values, and we very much appreciate this partnership,” he said.
