Fall Harvest

Mississaugas of the Credit First Nations Major Events held its annual Fall Harvest for Lloyd S. King Elementary School students on Friday, October 20. Community Members will have the chance to participate in traditional harvest activities on Saturday, October 21 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Students learned about processing wild rice including drying it, husking it and sorting it. They learned about medicines, teas, Bannock, fry bread, fruit jams, white corn, corn soup, squash, how to filet a fish, clean and prepare a goose, learned about different animal hides and the preserving and tanning process.
Students also learned the histories and importance of these traditional foods and were able to taste test most of them.
