Lifelong Learning Department II Lloyd S. King Elementary School – (10-month position; annual layoff period during July and August in alignment with school calendar)

We are inviting applications from a motivated and culturally knowledgeable individual to serve as Cultural Coordinator at Lloyd S. King Elementary School. This role is central to strengthening cultural identity within the school and community through meaningful programming, language promotion, and connection with Elders and Knowledge Keepers.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about cultural revitalization, enjoys community engagement, and takes pride in creating impactful experiences for children, youth, and families.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Coordinate and deliver cultural programming that promotes Anishinaabe language, history, and traditions
  • Build strong, respectful relationships with students, families, Elders, and Knowledge Keepers
  • Organize cultural events, workshops, ceremonies, and land-based learning opportunities
  • Support cultural competency education for staff, partners, and community members
  • Develop and maintain cultural resources, materials, and program plans
  • Promote language revitalization and integrate culture into school activities
  • Manage program logistics including scheduling, travel, honorariums, and materials
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and culturally grounded environment aligned with MCFN values

Qualifications & Experience

We are looking for candidates who bring:

  • Relevant post-secondary education in Indigenous Studies or an equivalent combination of education and experience working with Indigenous communities
  • Strong understanding of Anishinaabe culture, traditions, and community engagement practices
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and deliver programming both independently and collaboratively
  • Valid G Class Driver’s License, First Aid/CPR (or willingness to obtain), and a clear Vulnerable Sector Check

Assets:

  • Experience working in a First Nation environment
  • Fluency in Anishinaabemowin or willingness to continue learning
