The MISSISSAUGAS OF THE CREDIT FIRST NATION Is accepting applications for the full-time, permanent position of Consultation Specialist.
We are seeking a dedicated, community-minded, and highly motivated Consultation Specialist who will play an essential role in representing and advancing MCFN’s Aboriginal and Treaty Rights throughout consultation processes involving projects and developments within MCFN Treaty lands. This position is ideal for someone with strong communication, project management, and research skills who is committed to protecting Indigenous rights, supporting environmental stewardship, and fostering meaningful partnerships that benefit the MCFN community.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Lead and participate in consultation processes related to development projects within MCFN Treaty lands.
- Represent and advance MCFN Aboriginal and Treaty Rights through consultation meetings, correspondence, negotiations, and project agreements.
- Coordinate consultation activities, maintain project records, monitor communications, and prepare project-specific reports and work plans.
- Build positive working relationships with Crown agencies, municipalities, project proponents, MCFN departments, community members, and other stakeholders.
- Conduct independent research and analysis to support consultation activities and informed decision-making.
- Support the Manager of Consultations in developing consultation processes, protocols, strategies, budgets, and reporting requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
We are looking for candidates who bring:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Indigenous Studies, Urban Planning, Public Administration, or a related field, with a minimum of two (2) years of Indigenous consultation experience; or a minimum of five (5) years of directly related Indigenous consultation experience.
- Strong knowledge of the Duty to Consult and Accommodate and MCFN Aboriginal and Treaty Rights.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn project and records management systems.
- A valid Class G Driver’s License, reliable vehicle, and the ability to successfully complete a Criminal Reference Check.
- Assets: Knowledge of government and municipal policies, regulations, and processes related to the Duty to Consult and Accommodate, Experience working with data management systems and databases, Experience working within a First Nation organization or other fast-paced, high-demand environments.
