The MCFN Chief and Council are actively taking precautions and actions to address the potential impacts of COVID-19 in our community. The COVID-19 Working Group continues to meet regularly to strategize next steps and to discuss precautions to curb the spread of this virus.

Foodland offers curbside pick-up at their Hagersville location. Orders can be placed on Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays. MCFN Members can call the store at 905-768-3571 and speak with a member of their team. Pre-payment is required via credit card.

In the event you and your family are self-isolating and you do not have family or friends who can assist you with picking up your groceries, the COVID-19 Working Group can assist. Orders are to be placed with Foodland and payment must be made via credit card in order for pick up to take place on Fridays. Please contact Kerri L. King at 289-527-0364 or via email, at to arrange. In the event a family needs financial assistance with their order, you will be referred to the Transitional Support Fund, where an application can be made.

Off reserve grocery cards will be mailed out next week. We apologize for this unforeseen delay, but we will now be providing relief for the period of March to June. If you have not requested a grocery card and are in need of one, please contact Kailey Thomson at or 905-979-2957 Kerri King at 289-527-0364 to register for one. Please include your full name, your registry number, your mailing address and the number of people in your household. Please note, cards are limited to one per household.

On reserve care packages have been ordered and will be delivered to MCFN homes on April 24, 2020. These packages will consist of various non-perishable goods, including oatmeal, canned soup, canned veggies and canned fruit. Everything will be individually packaged and will not be split amongst homes. If you DO NOT want one of these packages, please advise either Kailey or Kerri at the above emails, or you can leave a message at 905-768-1133. Packages will be left at the door of each home. We plan to do this again in May and in June.

Discussions took place on Tuesday, April 14, 2020 with our representative from Service Canada to ensure our members who have questions about accessing Financial assistance are receiving the appropriate supports. Service Canada is currently developing a hotline for members to call directly to access supports. In the meantime, Service Canada has provided us with a link to a Service Request form. This link has been posted to our social media and website. Members can complete the form online and a Service Canada representative will contact you within 2 business days. Once we have received the official hotline number it will be posted to our Website and Social media accounts.

LSK staff have been in contact with parents and are preparing educational resources which will be distributed to MCFN households. Updates will be provided as they are available.

Please be advised that our organization is currently closed until May 4, 2020. The COVID-19 working group will be monitoring the situation and will be making recommendations to extend this closure. Any updates will be communicated during next week’s update.
