The telling of the Anishinaabe Creation Story took place November 2-4, 2016 at the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation Community Centre with Elder Jim Dumont leading the event and sharing his knowledge. Chief R. Stacey Laforme travelled to Rama at the end of August to listen to Elder Dumont share the Seven Fires of Creation. Chief Laforme took the opportunity to invite Elder Dumont to our community to share his knowledge and teachings and was pleased when Elder Dumont accepted. MNCFN, in partnership with Native Horizons Treatment Centre’s Community Wellness Development Team, was honoured to have Elder Dumont come and share the Seven Fires of Creation over the three days. For some it was the first time hearing the Seven Fires of Creation. The event was well received by the community and we hope that Elder Dumont will return for more teachings in the future. Gemma Onaubinisay aka Jim Dumont is the Eastern Doorway Chief and 5th Degree in his Mediwiwin learning from Shawanaga First Nation.
